Fourth General Assembly in Lesvos, Greece
On 14 and 15 October the 4th RAINS General Assembly took place in Lesvos, Greece! Hosted by ΕΛΓΟ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΑ ELGO DΙΜITRA, the occasion brought together project partners for knowledge sharing, progress updates and new opportunities for collaboration.
On the first day, we visited the Vrana Olive Press Museum, discovering an important part of Lesvos’ rich agricultural and cultural heritage. Following the welcome introductions by Konstantinos Aronis, Vice Governor for Agriculture and the Primary Sector of the North Aegean, Work Package leaders presented the latest developments across RAINS, highlighting key achievements, ongoing activities and priorities for the months ahead.

We continued with a dedicated synergy session with the GOV4ALL project, exploring opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange. The day concluded with the kick-off of the Aegean Living Hub under the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”, marking an important step towards fostering collaboration and supporting healthier soils.
A great first day combining local heritage, scientific progress and collaboration towards more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.

The second day of our visit to Lesvos brought together the island’s unique natural heritage, local agricultural traditions, and innovative solutions for more sustainable and resilient agriculture. Our day began with a visit to the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, where we explored the island’s remarkable geological heritage and learned more about its natural history.
We then headed to our first demonstration site in Sigri, where we discovered the work being carried out on the ground and enjoyed an olive oil tasting experience hosted by Oleve, celebrating the island’s rich agricultural heritage. The visit continued at our second demonstration site in Petra, offering further insights into the local context and the ongoing work to support more sustainable agricultural practices.

Throughout the day, we explored innovative solutions being tested across the demonstration sites, including fog collectors, Solid Water, compost bricks, and bio-nets, and learned how these approaches can help address environmental challenges and strengthen agricultural resilience.
A big thank you to ΕΛΓΟ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΑ ELGO DΙΜITRA for hosting the whole RAINS consortium and making this visit to Lesvos such a wonderful and enriching experience!
